Remove/install pressure control valve

Risk of injury caused by touching hot retarder and by scalding from hot retarder oil. Risk of injury to skin or eyes caused by retarder oil escaping under high pressure

Do not carry out any work unless retarder is switched off. Wear suitable protective clothing and safety glasses when working on the hot retarder.

Switch off ignition

The vehicle must be horizontal and the retarder oil must be at operating temperature for checking the oil level.

Detach the engine compartment paneling under the transmission

Drain oil from retarder

Remove screw plug (1) with sealing ring

Remove pressure regulator valve

 2 versions of pressure regulating valve possible:

- Pressure regulating valve with integrated sieve

- Pressure regulating valve without sieve Sieve is on screw plug.

- Separate parts cannot be combined.



For a pressure regulating valve with integrated sieve, and with the aid of the impact extractor, screw on a using the impact extractor knock the pressure regulating valve all the way out of the retarder housing.

Check pressure regulator valve

 For wear and damage.

Install in the reverse order

Install engine compartment paneling below transmission

Check/correct retarder oil level

Conduct a road test

 Bleed retarder:

-If present and possible, switch off retarder foot control.

-Drive vehicle at 50 km/h.

-Switch on retarder in first brake stage 5 times for approx. 5 seconds each.
