b Inner dia. 148 mm
c Outer dia. 194 mm

1 Carefully deburr torque ball housing (1) and torque ball shell halves (2) (arrows).
G41.10-3111-01
2 Press torque ball shell halves (2) against torque ball housing (1) and measure protrusion (X).
Protrusion (X) = protrusion of torque ball shell halves up to housing flange. Protrusion (Y) on the torque ball housing (1) = 5.0 mm (constant).
G58.20-3140-01
3 Calculate distance.
Distance = (Z) mm - (Y) mm - (X) mm.
Example:
11,0 mm = recess clearance (Z) in assembly flange (constant)
5,0 mm = protrusion (Y) at torque ball housing (constant)
4,0 mm = Measured protrusion (X) (example)
Distance = 11.0 mm - 5.0 mm - 4.0 mm = 2.0 mm.
4 Determine shims (3).
Permissible preload = 0.5 mm.
Distance plus preload equals thickness of shims (3).
Example:
Distance: 2.0 mm
Preload: 0.5 mm
Shim (3) = distance + preload
Shim (3) = 2.0 mm + 0.5 mm = 2.5 mm
G35.10-3102-01
5 Check adjustment of torque ball.
To do so mount assembly flange and determined shims (3) on the torque ball housing (1), tighten bolts by hand uniformly (approx. 10 Nm).
6 By using an extension tube (length 750 mm and Ø 33 mm) it must be possible to achieve a hand force of 60 to 100 N.
If the required hand force is insufficient insert shims (3).
If the required hand force is too great remove shims (3).
7 Mount assembly flange, grease torque ball shell halves (2) and then install.

2 Mount assembly flange with approx. 5.0 mm shims onto torque ball housing (1), tighten bolts finger-tight (approx. 10 Nm).
3 Measure distance (X) between assembly flange and torque ball housing (1).
Distance (X) = protrusion of torque ball shell halves up to housing flange.
4 Calculate distance.
Distance = inserted shims - (X) mm.
Example:
5.0 mm = inserted shims
3,0 mm = measured distance (X) (example)
Distance = 5.0 mm - 3.0 mm = 2.0 mm.
5 Determine shims (3).
Permissible preload = 0.5 mm.
Distance plus preload equals thickness of shims (3).
Example:
Distance: 2.0 mm
Preload: 0,5 mm
Shim (3) = distance + preload
Shim (3) = 2.0 mm + 0.5 mm = 2.5 mm
