| Remove/install | ||
Danger | Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. | Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
1 | Place the vehicle on the lift so that it is safely supported on the elevator support plates
2 | Disconnect the negative battery cable or turn off the main switch | For vehicles equipped with electronic engines, always observe the recommendations regarding the care with the vehicle electronics.
3 | Remove the wheels |
| |
When an appropriate lift is used, the removal of all wheels is not necessary.
4 | Lift the front axle so that the struts are not stressed
5 | Remove the flanged nuts (4.3) and the fastening screws (4.2) that fasten the lower tie bars (1) to the vehicle frame structure (4.4)
6 | Loosen the three fastening screws (3.3) and remove the joint retaining disc (3.2) on the axle of the tie bar support bracket (3.1)
7 | Rotate down the lower tie bar (1) around the axis of the tie bar support bracket (3.1) and remove it completely from the outside | Do not change the tie bars adjustment length. Any necessary adjustment will be made after final assembly, during the alignment operation.
8 | Remove the upper adjustable longitudinal tie bar (2) | For this word step, follow work steps 3, 4 and 5.
On 634.061 vehicles, the upper longitudinal bar can be adjustable, however the basic measurement is the same as the lower fixed bar.
. A basic assembly measurement of the front longitudinal control arms
Bar holders | |||
9 | Replace the bar articulation shaft, if necessary | To do this, remove the self-locking nuts (3.5), the fastening screws of the support on the axle (3.4) and remove the support brackets of the tie bars (3.1) from the front axle (3.6)
10 | Remove the lower tie bars support, if necessary |
| |
The holders that integrate the support axles of the two lower longitudinal tie bars, also integrate the front stabilizer bar bearings. For their removal, the front stabilizer bar must be removed first.
| Clean | ||
11 | Clean the tie bars components | When cleaning, avoid the contact of the pads and bushings with solvents or other detergent fluids.
The axle internal threads should be free of oil because a new chemical lock will be applied to the threads when assembling.
Clean all the tie bars components:
| |||
Articulation and fastening brackets.
Chemical lock residues on the tie bar joint shaft threads.
| Check | ||
12 | Check the support axle and tie bars components on the brackets | Replace:
| |||
Damaged or deformed struts.
Damaged eyelets on terminals.
Bar support axles integrated in the brackets in poor condition.
13 | Inspect the condition of the tie bar joint bushings and rubber pads |
| |
Replace buffers and bushings, if worn.
| Install | ||
14 | Install all tie bar support brackets (3.1) | Apply to the contact surface a light coating of lubricant, only the minimum to prevent future oxidation.
15 | Install the support fastening screws on the shaft (3.4) and tighten the new self-locking nuts (3.5) | After the brackets have seated on the front axle, tighten the new self-locking nuts.
.Supports (of stabilizer bearings) on the front axle
16 | Install the front stabilizer bar |
| |
17 | Adjust the length of the tie bars | Adjust the length only if the tie bars or adapters are replaced.
To make the adjustment, loosen the flanged nuts (10) on the screws (9) of the clamps (8) and turn the terminals at the tie bar ends until achieving the correct dimension (A).
. A basic assembly measurement of the front longitudinal control arms
.Clamp flange Bolts | |||
18 | Install the upper front longitudinal tie bar (2) | Apply a light coat of petroleum jelly in the articulation shaft. Fit the tie bar in the tie bar articulation support bracket axle (3.1) without the joint retaining disc (3.2).
Due to the application of chemical lock on the screws, the retaining discs will be installed after having fixed the longitudinal bars to the structure.
Vaseline | |||
19 | With the vehicle supported by the frame, move the front axle (3.6) until the articulation shaft of the tie bar buffer matches the frame hole
20 | Insert the fastening screws (4.2) into the frame on the articulation shaft and tighten the new flanged nuts (4.3) | .Front control arms on the frame
21 | Apply chemical lock on the threads of the new fastening screws (3.3) | Auto Lock
22 | Install the articulation retaining disc (3.2) in the support bracket of the tie bar (3.1) and the fastening screws (3.3) | .Cover plates at control arm joints
23 | Install the two front longitudinal tie bars (1) | Repeat for the lower bars the same installation procedures mentioned in work steps 17, 18, 19, 20 and 21.
24 | Install the wheels in case they have been removed
Danger | Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. | Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
25 | Lower the vehicle from the lift
26 | Check all steering adjustment values on both the front and rear axles corresponding to the vehicle | use a suitable updated alignment device.
27 | If necessary, adjust the alignment values and adjust the tie bars | To adjust the tie bars mounted on the vehicle, loosen the tie bar clamps (8) and rotate the lower longitudinal tie bar bodies (1) through the central rectangle. After obtaining the alignment dimension, return the key a little bit to relieve the tension on the joints. Confirm the values on the device and tighten the flanged nuts (10) on the flanged screws (9) of the clamps.
.Clamp flange Bolts | |||
28 | Run a test drive and check the vehicle behavior |
