Remove/install

Drain engine oil.



Remove engine.

 See information from body manufacturer.

Attach engine to the assembly stand.



 Observe operator's manual of the assembly stand.

Remove starter (31) and bracket (16).

 Installation: Check starter drive pinion for wear.

Remove oil pan.

Remove flywheel (18).

Remove ground line (17) from timing case (1).

Mark crankshaft position sensor (35) and camshaft position sensor (36) relative to the timing case (1).

Pull out crankshaft position sensor (35).

 Installation: Check locking bush; replace if necessary. Press in locking bush and crankshaft position sensor (35) up to the end stop.

Pull out camshaft position sensor (36).

 Installation: Check locking bush; replace if necessary. Press in locking bush and camshaft position sensor (36) up to end stop.

Remove crankcase ventilation system bleed line (14) from oil separator (2) and swivel to one side.

 Installation: Check sealing ring.

If damage is present,



replace crankcase ventilation system bleed line (14).

Remove compressor suction line (7) from timing case (1) and swivel upward at compressor resonator box (4).

 Installation: Check sealing ring.

If damage is present,



replace suction line compressor (7).

Release clamp of the compressor coolant line (6) and remove bracket (21) from timing case (1).

Remove side bracket (3) from timing case (1) with compressor control pressure air line, constant throttle compressed-air line (5), and engine brake compressed-air line (15).

 Press bracket (3) upward slightly.

 Engines with BlueTEC
Likewise, press metering device compressed-air line (20) upward.

Remove oil separator (2).

 Collect escaping engine oil.

Remove the timing case (1).

 If necessary, release timing case (1) using strikes with a plastic mallet.

 Installation: Place the timing case (1) onto the dowel pins.
Check the timing case (1) for damage.

If damage is present,



Replace timing case (1).

Install new radial shaft sealing ring (24) in the timing case (1).

Remove oil line section (19) of the oil separator (2), bracket (23), and all detachable parts from the timing case (1).

Only when replacing timing case (1).

Remove seal from the timing case (1) or from the crankcase.

 Installation: Replace seal.
