| Remove/install | ||
1 | Disconnect ground lead from battery. | See information from body manufacturer. | |
2 | Remove heat shield from exhaust gas turbocharger and from flanged manifold (4). | Bolt, heat shield to turbocharger and engine brake flap fitting | |
3 | Remove muffler from flanged manifold (4). | If the muffler obstructs the removal of the starter (3). | |
Installation: Clean sealing surfaces. | |||
4 | Remove circuit 30 electric lines (2) from starter (3). | Nut, cable for circuit 30 to starter | |
5 | Remove cable tie and remove circuit 50 electric line (1) from starter (3). | Installation: Replace cable tie. | |

6 | Remove starter (3). | Nut, starter to timing case | |
7 | Check starter drive pinion for wear. | If there is a problem, | |

replace starter (3). | |||
8 | Check ring gear of the flywheel for wear. | If there is a problem, | |

Replace the ring gear. | |||
9 | Install in the reverse order. | ||
10 | Perform engine test run. |
