Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 °C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.
Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

Remove/install

Use the right multifunction control lever to set the retarder control to the "0" position

Drain coolant

Drain remaining coolant at coolant drain plugs (5, 6) on retarder

Connect diagnostic system and perform quick test

Only when replacing the retarder (1).

Perform control unit replacement

Only when replacing the retarder (1).

 Installation: Follow instructions for control unit replacement in the diagnostic system.

Partially drain transmission oil from transmission (11)

 Installation: Replace sealing ring on screw plug.

Check position of propeller shaft flange for drive shaft (10) to retarder (1)

 The flattened side of the propeller shaft flange must face towards the retarder (1).

Detach cable tie (17) of locking pressure line (16) from transmission (11)

Detach locking pressure line (16) from retarder (1) and check sealing ring in quick-release coupling of locking pressure line (16)

 Collect coolant which flows out.

 Installation: Coat the sealing ring with lubricant.

If necessary:



Replace locking pressure line (16).

Detach cable tie for electrical line from retarder (1)

Release and disconnect electrical connector (21) on retarder control unit (RCM) (22)

Disconnect plug coupling of compressed air line (20) at retarder control unit (RCM) (22) and place compressed air line (20) to one side

 Compressed air escapes when detaching.

 Installation: On the retarder control unit (RCM) (22), only the compressed air connection system VOSS "232" may be used.

Detach clamps (14) for coolant pipes (7, 13) from bracket (15)

Detach bracket (15) from transmission (11)

15.1

Screw eyelet (3) with a thread M10 at top into retarder (1) and secure with a shackle

When removing retarder (1) upward.

15.2

Support and secure retarder (1) from below

When removing retarder (1) downward.

Detach clamps on retarder from coolant hoses (8, 18)

Remove bolts (12) from retarder (1)

 Collect and dispose of escaping coolant and transmission oil.

Detach retarder (1) from transmission (11) and lift out

 While doing so, the coolant hoses (8, 18) are detached from the coolant connections (9, 19).

 Installation: If the retarder (1) cannot be positioned, turn gear (4).

Remove sealing ring (2)

 Installation: Moisten new sealing ring (2) with transmission oil and install free of twists.

Install in the reverse order
