Various engine version codes on vehicles with Euro VI Standard
Due to several facelift measures, a number of engine version codes are now available for vehicles with the Euro 6 Standard. This leads to a difference between the procedures for replacing exhaust gas aftertreatment units.
As of April 2019, there are the following engine version codes:
M5CEngine version Euro VI, D
M5LEngine version Euro VI, Version 2
M5MEuro VI engine version, with OBD-C
M5ZEuro VI engine version
Special feature for vehicles with code M5Z: various generations of exhaust gas aftertreatment units
On vehicles with code M5Z (Engine version Euro VI), there are various generations of exhaust gas aftertreatment units. As a result, different requirements must be observed if a generation I exhaust gas aftertreatment unit is replaced by a generation II unit. In this case, it is essential to, for example, set various control codes so that the correct data record can be assigned if the software of the exhaust gas aftertreatment control unit (ACM) is updated at a later stage.
New versions of exhaust gas aftertreatment unit
Since approx. 04/2019, the following new exhaust gas aftertreatment unit versions have been available:
Vehicles with code U2G (exhaust box)
Vehicles with code K7J (exhaust system, vertical, behind cab)
Important additional operations when replacing
When replacing exhaust gas aftertreatment units, it is essential to perform a number of additional operations apart from the purely mechanical operations. Depending on the code given on the vehicle, these can be e.g. :
Updating the documentation in VeDoc
Linking (relocating) the ACM control unit to the exhaust gas aftertreatment unit
Updating the software release on the ACM control unit
Performing the teach-in process at the ACM control unit
If these operations are not performed in the way intended for the respective vehicle, further workshop visits will be inevitable.
