The Sprinter van model series, which replaces the T1 van that had been successfully built over the course of many years, is produced in the DaimlerChrysler plant in Düsseldorf.
The preceding graphics portray the corrosion prevention measure employed at the Düsseldorf plant, starting with cleaning the body-in-white and culminating in the assembly of the painted and protected body.
The paintwork structure produced during this process is shown on a sample maintenance flap.
The indicated temperatures are the surface temperatures of the bodywork.
Cavities as well as seams, folds and the underfloor receive an additional corrosion protection through the application of wax and PVC. For further details please refer to the corresponding documents.
The following chapters and documents show how design measures, production flows, painting methods and the use of specific materials provide reliable corrosion protection for the Sprinter.
One of the special features in the Düsseldorf plant is the cataphoretic immersion priming dip tank, which, having a capacity of roughly 425 m3, is one of the largest in Europe.
