Remove

1

Turn steering to the right

 Drag link (2) on steering knuckle arm (1) must be accessible.

Release and slacken nuts on steering knuckle arm (1) and on steering gear pitman arm (3)

 Do not unscrew nuts completely.

Pull drag link (2) off steering knuckle arm (1) and steering gear pitman arm (3)

 The drag link (2) detaches abruptly.

Move wheels of front axle into straight-ahead position

Unscrew nuts from steering knuckle arm (1) and pitman arm (3) and remove drag link (2)


The pitman arm must not be adjusted after removing the drag link, as otherwise the pressure reduction valves in the steering gear may be inadvertently adjusted.
This can lead to malfunctions in the steering system.



Install

Insert drag link (2) in the steering knuckle arm (1)

 Adjust length of drag link (2) (standard dimension approx. 1004 mm from center of ball head to center of ball head).

Set steering gear to center position and move the front-axle wheels to the straight-ahead position

Slacken collar clamp on ball socket

Adjust length of drag link (2) by turning ball head


When adjusting the drag link (2) the steering gear must be in the center position and the front-axle wheels in the straight-ahead position.
Otherwise the adjustment may be faulty.

 Adjust length of drag link (2) so that the drag link (2) can be inserted into the pitman arm (3) free of tension.

Tighten collar clamp

Tighten and secure nuts on steering knuckle arm (1) and on steering gear pitman arm (3)

 Install new cotter pins.

 Nut, drag link to pitman arm/steering knuckle arm
