Danger | Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off during lifting | Only lift vehicle at the lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
Warning | Risk of injury from being trapped in the swivel range of steered axles | Ensure that no persons or objects are in the swivel range of all steered axles when turning the steering wheel. Do not stand in the swivel range of the additional steering axle when the engine is running.
Warning | Risk of injury caused by body parts being pinched or crushed as cab is tilted | Ensure that no one is within the tilting range of the cab as it is being tilted. Always tilt the cab all the way to the end position and secure with the safety strut.

Note on calculation of tightening torque when using insertion or socket tools with various effective lengths
Adjust | |||
1 | Move front wheels to straight-ahead position
2 | Secure vehicle against rolling
3 | Raise vehicle at front axle far enough so that wheels can turn freely, and jack up vehicle
4 | Open maintenance flap
5 | Tilt cab | ||
6 | Detach boot (3) from steering gear (4) and push upwards
7 | Move steering gear (4) to center position
8 | Attach boot (3) to steering gear (4)
9 | Mark position of setting screw (1) relative to steering gear (4) | The markings (A) permit a comparison between the previous and the new setting.
10 | Slacken lock nut (2) on adjusting bolt (1)
11 | Tighten setting screw (1) to approx. 40 Nm and then slacken again by approx. two turns | When the setting screw (1) is tightened, the teeth of the working piston are aligned with the teeth on the steering shaft.
12 | Determine inherent friction moment for adjustment screw (1)
Torque screwdriver | |||
If the inherent friction torque is 0.5 Nm.
| |||
Make adjusting bolt (1) move easily.
13 | Tighten adjusting screw (1) | To do this, add 1.0 Nm to the inherent friction torque and set this on the torque driver.
Torque screwdriver | |||
14 | Tighten lock nut (2) | Counterhold the setting screw (1) using the Allen key. The position of the adjustment screw (1) must not be altered.

15 | Lower cab | ||
16 | Close maintenance flap
17 | Turn steering once to left and right lock | The steering must not have excessive resistance.
If the steering has excessive resistance.
| |||
Repeat adjustment procedure.
18 | Move front wheels to straight-ahead position
19 | Raise vehicle at front axle, remove jack stands and lower vehicle back onto ground
20 | Check steering play on steering wheel | Turn steering wheel alternately to left and right until front wheels move.
Permissible play at steering wheel in center position
If the permissible steering play at the steering wheel is exceeded.
| |||
Repeat adjustment procedure.
21 | Perform a test drive | During the test drive, check that the steering returns properly.
If the steering does not automatically return from cornering to the straight-ahead position.
| |||
Repeat adjustment procedure. |
