Remove/install

Secure vehicle to prevent it moving away.

Empty compressed-air system completely.

Remove wheels from trailing axle.

 After jacking up, leave the lifting device positioned at the trailing axle.

Support vehicle at frame.

Remove left and right anti-lock braking system (ABS) rpm sensor.

Disconnect electrical connector from brakepad wear sensor (9) at left and right.


Detach and attach the connector in an axial direction only.
The electrical connectors can otherwise be damaged and the brake caliper must be replaced.

Remove compressed-air lines from left and right combination brake cylinder.

Remove all lines and line brackets attached to the trailing axle and tie up to one side.

Remove both shock absorbers (6) from trailing axle.

Remove left and right air suspension bellows from trailing axle.

 Bolt, air suspension bellows to trailing axle

Remove both bearing caps (11) from trailing axle and press stabilizer link (10) downward out of mounts.

 Depending on the vehicle equipment and available space, the stabilizer link (10) may also have to be detached from the vehicle frame bearing brackets and completely removed.

Remove wishbone control arm bearing bracket (4) from trailing axle.

 Depending on the vehicle equipment and available space, the wishbone control arm (1) may also have to be detached from the wishbone control arm bearing bracket (4).

Lower trailing axle and pull out from under vehicle.

Install in the reverse order.
