Remove bell hub with left and right rear axle shaft

Unscrew bolt (9) from differential lock shift cylinder (7)

 Only with differential lock and 233 mm dia. ring gear.

Remove differential lock shift cylinder (7)

 Only with differential lock and 233 mm dia. ring gear.

Detach temperature sensor plug (1)

 Only with maintenance system (WS).

Remove propeller shaft

 Only detach propeller shaft from differential assembly and support propeller shaft.

Attach removal and installation device to the differential assembly (2) and insert into the support of the inspection pit lift

 It is absolutely essential to use the removal and installation device otherwise the differential assembly (2) will fall out of the axle housing in an uncontrolled manner.

Unscrew remaining bolts (3) and remove differential assembly (2).



Install

Install differential lock shift cylinder (7)

 Only with differential lock and 233 mm dia. ring gear.

Do not install the compressed-air line and pressure switch.

Screw bolt (9) into the differential lock shift cylinder (7)

 Only with differential lock and 233 mm dia. ring gear.

The differential lock is locked mechanically as a result.

Attach removal and installation device to the differential assembly (2) and insert into the support of the inspection pit lift

 It is absolutely essential to use the removal and installation device otherwise the differential assembly (2) cannot be installed in a controlled manner.

Clean sealing surfaces on axle housing and on differential assembly and coat with sealant

Insert differential assembly (2) into the axle housing and screw in 4 opposed bolts (3)

 This prevents the differential assembly (2) from falling out.

Detach removal and installation tool and screw in remaining bolts (3)

 With the differential lock and 233 mm Ø ring gear the 2 bolts are installed in the area of the differential lock in operation step 17.

Tighten the 2 differential assembly (2) bolts in the area of the differential lock shift cylinder (7)

 Only with differential lock and 233 mm dia. ring gear.
