 Danger

Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

Check

Check front axle differential (3) for leak tightness in area of respective front axle shaft (1).

 

Remove/install

Detach respective front axle transverse control arm from integral carrier (2).

 Do not completely remove front axle transverse control arm.

 Caution

Risk of injury to skin and eyes due to handling of transmission oil. Health risk caused by swallowing transmission oil

Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Do not pour transmission oil into beverage bottles.

Pry front axle shaft (1) off front axle differential (3) using a suitable tool and remove.


Carefully pry front axle shaft (1) off front axle differential (3) and do not pull out at outer joint.
Otherwise, the front axle shaft (1) or front axle differential (3) will be damaged.

 Removal: Collect any transmission oil which runs out.

 Helper required.

Remove right radial shaft sealing ring from front axle differential (3).

If a leak was found on the right side of the vehicle during the leak test performed before starting the repair.

Remove left dust cap from front axle differential (3).

If a leak was found on the left side of the vehicle during the leak test performed before starting the repair.

Install in the reverse order.



Check

Check/correct oil level in front axle differential (3).


