1 | Remove each front wheel. | ||
2 | Remove cotter pin (9). | Dispose of cotter pin (9). | |
3 | Remove hub cover at front wheel. | Model 470, 471 with code R1A (43.2 cm (17'') LM wheels in 6-spoke design), model 470, 471 with code R1C (45.7 cm (18'') LM wheels in 6-double-spoke design), model 470, 471 with code R1E (48.3 cm (19'') LM wheels in 6-double-spoke design) | |
4 | Attach front wheel with three wheel nuts. | ||
5 | Lower vehicle. | Front wheel must be touching the ground. | |
6 | Unscrew nut (8). | ||
7 | Remove front wheel. | ||
8 | Remove brake hose (11) from brake line. | ||
Seal connections immediately. | |||
9 | Remove electrical line of rpm sensor. | ||
To do so, disconnect rpm sensor electrical connector and remove electric line of rpm sensor on body. | |||
10 | Remove torsion bar linkage (6) from stabilizer bar (4). | ||
11 | Remove tie rod joint (3) from steering knuckle (10). | ||

12 | Support front-axle half (2) and secure against falling down with tensioning strap. | ||

13 | Remove upper transverse control arm from steering knuckle(10). | ||
14 | Remove lower control arm (12) from front axle carrier. | ||
15 | Remove suspension strut (13) from body. | ||
16 | Tilt steering knuckle (10) to side and, while doing so, remove front axle shaft (7) from wheel hub. | ||
17 | Secure front axle shaft (7) against falling down. | ||
18 | Lower front-axle half (2) and remove. | ||

The front-axle half (2) consists of the steering knuckle (10), suspension strut (13) and lower transverse control arm (12). | |||
| Install | ||
19 | Position front-axle half (2) with major assembly mount and mounting plate on vehicle. | ||

20 | Insert front axle shaft (7) into wheel hub. | ||
21 | Screw on nut (8) lightly by hand. | ||
22 | Attach suspension strut (13) to body. | ||
23 | Attach lower control arm (12) to front axle carrier. | ||
24 | Mount upper transverse control arm onto steering knuckle(10). | ||
25 | Attach tie rod joint (3) at steering knuckle (10). | ||
Replace cotter pin(1). | |||
Nut, tie rod joint to steering knuckle | |||
26 | Attach torsion bar linkage (6) to stabilizer bar (4). | ||
Replace the nut (5). | |||
27 | Connect rpm sensor electrical connector and attach electric line of rpm sensor to body. | ||
28 | Attach brake hose (11) to brake line. | ||
29 | Remove major assembly mount and mounting plate as well as tensioning strap. | ||

30 | Attach front wheel with three wheel nuts. | ||

32 | Tighten nut (8). | Nut, front axle shaft to wheel hub | |
33 | Remove front wheel. | ||
34 | Install new cotter pin (9). | ||
