1 | Remove heat exchanger. | ||
2 | Remove timing case cover. | ||
3 | Adjust camshafts to preadjustment. | For this purpose, turn crankshaft (8) in direction of engine rotation using open-end wrench. | |
4 | Remove screw plug (12) from crankcase (9). | ||

5 | Screw drift into bore at crankcase (9). | Drift | |
6 | Turn engine at crankshaft (8) opposite direction of engine rotation until crankshaft (8) is in contact with drift. | Drift | |
Adjust | |||
7 | Insert suitable locking drift (Ø 4 mm) into bore (1) and press together spring (2) of intake camshaft gear (3). | | |
The gear backlash play compensation is relaxed in this way. | |||
8 | Engage the chain tensioner. | ||
Do not remove chain tensioner. | |||
9 | Loosen screws (4). | ||
10 | Insert wedge of the adjustment tool into the grooves (5). | Adjustment tool | |
11 | Align bore with attached spacer sleeve on the adjusting tool with the bore (6) on the cylinder head cover. | For this purpose, turn exhaust camshaft with adjustment tool. | |

12 | Turn intake camshaft gearwheel (3) until the pins of the adjustment tool engage in the bores (7) on the intake camshaft gearwheel (3). | Adjustment tool | |
13 | Fix adjusting tool in place. | For this purpose, screw screw into bore (6). | |

14 | Release chain tensioner. | ||
15 | Replace screws (4) in sequence. | ||
