Removing

Remove clutch booster

 The transmission can only be removed if the clutch booster is removed first. The release bearing (1) is connected to the pressure plate (3) by the load ring (2).

 The engine can optionally be removed. See operation step 2.2.

Remove release bearing (1)

 Press load ring (2) in pressure plate (3) together and remove release bearing (1).

Attach assembly device to pressure plate (3)

Remove pressure plate (3) with drive plate (4)

 To prevent subjecting pressure plate (3) to one-sided loads, unscrew bolts (5) by turning each one by just a small increment while also working in a cross-pattern. Pay attention to the installation position of the drive plate (4).



Checking

Check the friction surface of the pressure plate (3)

 If there are scorch marks, score marks or cracks on the friction surface, the pressure plate (3) must be replaced subject to separate repair order.

Check the friction surfaces of the drive plate (4)

 If there are scorch marks, score marks or cracks on the friction surface, the drive plate (4) must be replaced subject to separate repair order.

Check friction surface on flywheel

Inspect and grease guide bearing in flywheel

 Replace worn guide bearing subject to separate repair order: 

Remove/install guide bearing

Check release bearing (1) for ease of movement and wear.

 Replace worn release bearing (1) subject to separate repair order.

Check clutch throwout lever (6) for ease of movement and wear

 If stiff and if wear is identified, remove clutch throwout lever (6), disassemble and loosen, replace if necessary: 

Lightly grease grooves of drive plate (4) and check ease of movement of drive plate (4) on hub profile of transmission shaft (8)

 It should be easy to push the drive plate (4) over the hub profile of the transmission shaft (8) but without excessive play.
Remove any excess grease.

Install

Center drive plate (4) on flywheel using suitable alignment punch (7)

 Pay attention to the installation position of the drive plate (4). Remove the alignment punch (7) only after completely tightening the pressure plate (3).

Install pressure plate (3).

 Tighten the bolts (5) crosswise in small increments. It must still be possible to move the alignment punch (7) axially after installing the pressure plate (3). Check for correct seating of the load ring (2) on the three cams of the metal ring.



Remove alignment punch (7)

Detach assembly device from pressure plate (3)

Install release bearing (1)

 To do so, fit the release bearing (1) on the transmission shaft (8). Lightly grease the transmission shaft (8). Remove any excess grease.

Clip release bearing (1) into load ring (2)

 Using the clutch release fork (6) the release bearing (1) can be clipped into the load ring (2) of the pressure plate (3) by hand through the opening in the clutch housing.
