Risk of explosion caused by fuel igniting, risk of poisoning caused by inhaling and swallowing fuel and risk of injury to eyes and skin caused by contact with fuel

No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking.
Pour fuels only into suitable and appropriately marked containers.

Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.

Pump out fuel

 Extract about 20 liters if fuel tank (75) is full

 Pay attention to fuel quantity.

Raise sound-deadening mat, place to one side and remove both covers

Disconnect electrical connectors

Detach fuel lines

 Cover separation point with rag, in order to prevent ingress of fuel into interior.

 Disconnect feed and return line.

 Installation: Inspect hose clamp, install new clamp if necessary.

Unscrew corresponding ring nut using claw-type wrench and remove



Remove right fuel pump (M3) with fuel level sensor, right half of tank (B4/2)

 When removing fuel level sensor, right half of tank (B4/2).

 The fuel level sensor, right half of tank (B4/2), and the right fuel pump (M3) are a unit and are not replaced individually.

Remove module carrier (55/1) and remove fuel gage sensor, left half of tank (B4/1)

 When removing fuel level sensor, left half of tank (B4/1).

 Installation: Tie up fuel lines at the ends with a cable tie; these can then be better guided through narrow connection to the two tank halves.

Replace sealing ring

Moisten seal ring with mineral oil.

Install in the reverse order

 Danger!

Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running

Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Carry out engine test run

 Check fuel system for leaks.
