1 Position magnetic disk (052c) 201 589 04 21 00 Part 16 on end face of drive pinion (47) in order to measure adjustment dimension "A".
P35.31-0267-01
2 Insert dial gauge (052a) 000 589 38 19 00 with measuring pin into the measuring device (052) 201 589 04 21 00.
The measuring probe for the dial gauge is screwed into the adjustment piece (052b).
3 Press adjustment piece (052b) 201 589 04 21 00 Part 10 against the measuring device and set dial gauge to "0" with 2 mm pre-tension. Tighten clamp screw, whilst doing so check the "0" position of the dial gauge, readjust if necessary.
P35.31-0366-01
4 Insert the measuring device (052) from the left drill hole into the rear axle housing.
When inserting the measuring device (052) into the rear axle housing, make sure that the measuring probe of the dial gauge is not damaged on the bore.
P35.31-0376-01
5 Read off adjustment dimension "A". The adjustment dimension must be within the tolerance.
P35.31-0306-01
The adjustment dimension "A" is the design-related basic setting of the drive pinion, and the basic deviation "a" must be within the permissible tolerance in the positive or negative direction. The basic deviation "a" is the dimension inscribed on the end face of the drive pinion.
If the adjustment dimension is outside the tolerance, grind the installed shim (S) or install a new shim of the appropriate thickness. If this is done, however, it is absolutely essential to use a new spacer sleeve for the tapered roller bearing.
a Deviation in basic setting
A Basic setting (design)
B Addendum of bevel gear plus height of tapered roller bearing
S Adjustment shim thickness
M Center of ring gear
6 Remove measuring device and magnetic disk from rear axle housing.
