Task

The automatic air conditioning control and operating unit performs the following tasks:

Reading in of sensors and signals

Evaluation of input factors

Actuation of components

Reading in of sensors and signals

The input factors are read in via the following connections:

Direct line

Climate control LIN (LIN B8)

Interior CAN (CAN B)

Direct line

Signals from the following sensors are read in via a direct line:

Interior temperature sensor (B10/4)

Evaporator temperature sensor (B10/6)

Left side air vent air outlet temperature sensor (B10/31)

Right side air vent air outlet temperature sensor (B10/32)

Left front footwell vent air outlet temperature sensor (B10/35)

Right front footwell vent air outlet temperature sensor (B10/36)

Rear footwell vent air outlet temperature sensor (B10/38) (up to 31.5.11)

Sun sensor (B32/3)

Interior temperature sensor with integrated fan (N70/3b1)

Climate control LIN

The signals of the following sensors are read in via climate control LIN:

Dew point sensor (B11/12) (up to 31.5.10)

Emissions sensor (B31)

Rear automatic air conditioning operating unit (N22/4)

Interior humidity/temperature sensor (B82) (model 207.3 as of 1.12.09, model 207.4)

Interior CAN

The following signals are read in via interior CAN, for example:

Vehicle speed (from instrument cluster (A1))

Status of voice control system (VCS [SBS]) (provided by the radio with auto pilot system (A2/56) with code (511) Audio 50 APS with DVD changer or by the COMAND controller unit (A40/3) with code (512) COMAND APS with DVD changer or with code (527) COMAND APS with single DVD drive (with navigation))

Coolant temperature (from CDI control unit (N3/9) (with diesel engine) or from ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) (with gasoline engine)

Refrigerant pressure (from front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1))

Outside temperature (from front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module)

Engine speed (from CDI control unit (with diesel engine) or ME-SFI [ME] control unit (with gasoline engine))

Circuit 15 status (from electronic ignition lock control unit (N73))

Position of panoramic sliding sunroof (from panoramic sliding sunroof control module (A98) (with code (413) Panoramic glass sunroof with top sliding sunroof)

The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).

Evaluation of input factors

The input factors that have been read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and the relevant components are then actuated.

Actuation of components

Components are actuated with the following lines:

Direct line

Climate control LIN

Interior CAN

Direct line

The blower regulator (A32n1) is actuated via a direct line.

Climate control LIN

The following components are actuated via climate control LIN:

Fresh air/recirculated air flap actuator motor (M2/5)

Left blend air flap actuator motor (M2/6)

Right blend air flap actuator motor (M2/7)

Left defroster flap actuator motor (M2/8)

Right defroster flap actuator motor (M2/9)

Left footwell flap actuator motor (M2/10)

Right footwell flap actuator motor (M2/11)

Left center air vent flap actuator motor (M2/12)

Right center air vent flap actuator motor (M2/13)

Diffuser flap actuator motor (M2/21)

Ram air flap actuator motor (M2/34), (up to 31.5.10)

Rear blend air flap actuator motor (M2/35)

PTC heater booster (R22/3) (with diesel engine)

Interior CAN

The signals are sent by the automatic air conditioning control and operating unit via interior CAN.

The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).
