Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between the columns of the lifting platform and position the four support plates at the lifting platform support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

Deactivate SBC brake system using STAR DIAGNOSIS.

While working on the rear axle care must be taken to ensure that the surface of all aluminum components do not get any scratches, cracks and notches. Otherwise the service life of the parts will be affected



Raise vehicle

 Position arms of lift platform in such a way that bolts of the rear diagonal strut (5) are accessible.

 Bolt (5/1) and bolt (5/2) of the rear diagonal strut must be tightened only when the vehicle is standing on its wheels horizontally.

Deactivate SBC brake system using STAR DIAGNOSIS.



Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory

Relieve pressure in ABC system

Remove twelve-point collar nut (12) from rear axle shaft (37)

Remove rear wheel



Remove wheels; reposition if necessary

Remove rear muffler

 When removing the left rear axle shaft (37), the left rear muffler must be removed. When removing the right rear axle shaft (37), the right rear muffler must be removed.

Detach rear axle shaft (37) from connecting flange

 To prevent wheel bearing damage, the vehicle must not be moved on its wheels any more once the rear axle shaft (37) is removed.

 Installation: Replace self-locking bolts and shims. Lightly oil bolts at thread and bolt head contact surface.



Lift wheel carrier using transmission jack and transmission plate until rear axle shaft (37) is horizontal

 Move rear axle (37) shaft to approximately horizontal position, push together and remove diagonally downwards from connecting flange.

Pull rear axle shaft (37) out of the rear axle shaft flange and remove

 Do not damage rubber sleeves or rotor for rpm sensor.

If rear axle shaft is jammed:



Press rear axle shaft out of rear axle shaft flange

Checking

Check constant velocity joints, boots and end cover for leaks and damage

 If the inner or outer constant velocity joint is defective, completely replace the rear axle shaft.

 If the rubber boots and end covers are damaged or leaky, replace the appropriate parts. Refer to:



Remove/install inside CV joint or rubber boots on rear axle shaft

Install in the reverse order

Activate SBC brake system using STAR DIAGNOSIS

 Set brake pad application using STAR DIAGNOSIS



Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory
