| Important preliminary information and dimensions | Always follow the recommended personal safety measures to avoid accidents as well as the environmental protection measures. | |
Considering that the front springs are fundamentally important for the vehicle behavior, we suggest that the maintenance is at all times carried out on both springs - right-hand and left-hand.
| Remove | ||
1 | Place the vehicle on an appropriate place, preferably flat and level, that allows working safely. Chock the rear wheels to avoid the vehicle's unintentional rolling | It applies if you have to work out of the lift or ditch appropriate for this type of work.
2 | Turn-off the master switch | As it deals with electronic vehicles, always follow the recommendations for this type of vehicles.
3 | With the vehicle on the ground, gently release the wheels from the front axle. The front wheels will be subsequently removed with the vehicle lifted
Danger! | Take due care when lifting the vehicle | Risk of serious accidents.
Do not lift the vehicle by the center of the axles.
For this of work, and supporting the vehicle by the stringers is necessary in order to move the axle. However, if the shaft is hanging, the dampers may exceed their normal stroke and become seriously damaged, and the mechanic may not realize it. In this case, to avoid any damage, the dampers should be loosened from the bottom before the stringers are chocked.
4 | Support the vehicle on trestles safely placed under the stringers, from both sides (front and rear), to enable working safely. At this position, the front axle can be moved according to the work requirements | The vehicle should not be lifted from one side only, with the opposite wheel on the ground. It should be lifted evenly from both sides.
5 | Slightly lift the front axle with care until the joints of the front springs remain free | Safely chock the front axle so as to remain at this position while removing and install the front springs.
6 | Remove the wheels | ||
7 | Remove the flanged nuts and screws (4) on both sides and release the side arms of the front stabilizer (3) at the anti-roll bar
Danger! | Take due care when tilting the cab | Risk of serious accidents.
8 | Tilt the cab to its fully-open position | Secure the cabin with the safety devices. With the vehicle in this position, the front springs may be removed.
9 | Slightly unscrew the flanged nuts (10) from the U-clips (9), without releasing the spring (1) | The spring remains attached to the backing plate with the center pin (spike) fit in its housing.
10 | At the front joint, remove the nut (12) from the screw (11) (both flanged) | As a safety precaution, the screw (11) may remain in its housing.
11 | Control the axle height and, at the rear joint, remove from the shacked the flanged nuts and screws (14) and remove the inner (15) and outer (16) plates | Note the position of the screws and plates.
12 | Remove the flanged nuts (10), the "U" clips (9) and the positioner (8)
13 | Remove from the front the flanged screw (11) and remove the complete spring, being careful not to damage the fitting hole of the master screw (spike) on the backing plate (9.1) on the front axle (2). Remove the backing plate (9.1) of the front axle with the dowel pin | The housing hole of the master screw on the backing plate (9.1) on the shaft is important because it defines the alignment of the axle relative to the vehicle, and may also include the caster angle. Watch the dowel pin of the plate (9.1) on the front axle Watch the dowel pin of the plate (9.1) on the front axle.
| Install | ||
14 | Confirm the cleaning of the master screw (spike) fitting hole, the spring seat surface (1) on the lower backing plate (9.1) on the front axle (2) of the vehicle
15 | Mount the backing plate (9.1) on the front axle (2) so that the dowel pin engages in the housing. Mount the front spring (1) on the backing plate (9.1) and carefully fit the spring | Observe the correct position of the backing plate (9.1) on the front axle and the perfect fit of the dowel pin on the front axle.
16 | At the top, install the clip positioner (8). Apply a light coat of grease to the threads of the U-clips (9) and install them on the spring (1) with the flanged nuts (10). Tighten loosely on both sides. However, the final tightening will be subsequently applied when the vehicle is on the ground | Clips in poor condition or with damaged threads should be replaced together with the flanged nuts.
17 | Check the axle height and install at the rear the shackle plates (16) and (15) with the flanged screws and nuts (14). At the front, install the screw (11) and nut (12) (both flanged) | Observe the positions of the screw (14) on the plates of the shackle joints and the front linkage. The flanged nuts are screwed from inside the joints.
If the spring is properly seated and aligned, tighten all nuts of the joint screws | Flanged nut of the screw of the front spring joint.
Flanged nuts of the screws of the real joints on the shackles.
Danger! | Take due care when lifting and lowering the vehicle to remove the chocks from the stringers | Risk of serious accidents.
18 | Install the wheels, remove the trestles and support the vehicle on them | Retighten the wheels with the vehicle on the ground.
19 | Mount the front dampers
20 | Mount the side arms (3) of the front stabilizer and tighten the flanged screws and nuts (4) on the joint with the bar
21 | Tighten the flanged nuts (10) of the "U" clips (9) of the spring | Tighten sequentially and crosswise. Whenever possible, retighten the clips after the vehicle has run under load for a while (approximately 500-1000 km). The subsequent tightening should be done with the vehicle empty.
| |||
Danger! | Take due care when closing the cab | Risk of serious accidents.
22 | Remove the safety devices and lower the cab to its normal driving position
23 | Whenever possible, adjust the parallelism of the axles and the driving geometry | Make the adjustments according to the technical data corresponding to the vehicle.
24 | Run a test drive and check the vehicle behavior |
