Unscrew nut on left and right suspension struts

 Installation: Replace self-locking nut.

 Use a box-end wrench to apply counterpressure to the shock absorber insert to prevent it from twisting when the nut is being loosened and tightened.

Detach pressure transducer of boost pressure control at bracket of axle/engine subframe

 See: Remove/install pressure transducer of boost pressure control.

Detach brake caliper (30) on left and right

 Do not damage brake lines.

 Fasten brake caliper (30) to the body using a suitable wire.

Remove front acrylonitrile butadiene styrene sensors (B79)

 With code BB0 (ABS)

 Do not disconnect electric connection.

Detach drive shafts (1) on right and left at transmission end

 Secure drive shafts (1).

The drive shafts (1) remain installed in the steering knuckle.

Unscrew rear engine mount on axle/engine subframe (35)

 Loosen threaded connection on engine support, guide out engine mount to the rear.

Remove catalytic converter (26).

Unscrew union nut of power steering pump oil line (42)

 Catch emerging steering fluid in a suitable container.

Detach power steering pump oil hose (41) from oil cooler

 Catch emerging steering fluid in a suitable container.

Unscrew bolts and nuts of lower charge air pipe

 See: Remove/install charge air ducts

Unscrew screw/bolt (23)

 Installation: Align color coding (arrow) of steering gear shaft (21) and universal joint (22). The steering remains centered! Insert universal joint (22) in the steering gear shaft (21) until the bore in the universal joint (22) aligns with the radial groove in the steering gear shaft (21). Replace TORX bolt (23).

 Used a colored marker to identify the position of the steering gear shaft (21) and universal joint (22) (arrow).



Remove bearing cup (15) and shackle (16) on left and right axle/engine subframe (35)

 Installation: Replace self-locking bolts (17, 18). Install fish-plates (16) on correct sides.



Position engine support fixture (36) under the axle/engine subframe (35)

 Align all terminal points.

Use a suitable strap to attach the front subframe and its ancillaries to the removal assembly.

Remove front stop element (39) on the axle/engine subframe (35)

 Pay attention to the installation position of the front stop elements (39)



Unscrew front and rear collar bolts (38)



Lower axle/engine subframe (35) downwards slowly

 Rotate the steering shaft to ensure that the steering gear shaft (21) slides on and off the universal joint (22)!

Ensure unobstructed movement of the disassembled vehicle parts!

 Installation: Align axle/engine subframe (35) in such a way that bolts (, 38) can be put in place and retraction of the steering gear shaft (21) in the universal joint (22) is achieved.

Conversion of front anti-sway bar

 Only when replacing the axle/engine subframe.
