Remove/install

Remove air filter housing with air intake pipe upstream of air filter housing.

Remove shift cable (1) and shift cable (2) from shift module (3) on transmission (4).

Unclip shift cable (1) and shift cable (2) from holders (5, 6) on transmission (4), pull back the rear sections of the quick-fit connectors (1H, 2H) and pull cable holders (1V, 2V) upwards out of holders (5, 6).

Remove center shifter console (7).

Remove electrical connector (8) on Supplemental Restraint System control unit (N2/10) and place to one side.

Remove foam insulation (9, 10).

Remove ground line (11) from transmission tunnel.

Release underfloor paneling (12) from transmission tunnel.

 Do not loosen underfloor panelings  (12) at outer sills.

Remove both cross struts on underfloor (19).

Remove rear heat shield  (13) from underbody  (19), put down onto center muffler  (14) and slide backward

Remove rear heat shield  (13) from underbody  (19), put down onto diesel particulate filter and slide backward

Remove rear heat shield (13) from underbody (19), put down on exhaust system and slide backward.

Release front heat shield (15) and place onto front axle carrier (16).

Open front holder (17) and unclip shift cable (1).

If front holder (17) is installed.

Remove rear holder (18) from underbody (19).

Unclip duct (20) of shift cable (1) and pull shift cable (2) on underbody (19) into vehicle interior.

Remove shift cable (1) and shift cable (2) out of vehicle interior.

Install in the reverse order.

Adjust shift cable (1) and shift cable (2).

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.
