Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.

Remove front lower engine compartment paneling

If installed.

Remove poly-V-belt of fan

Remove poly-V belt

Remove cover (1)

 To do this, remove screws (2).

 Screw, starter opening cover to crankcase

Insert retaining lock (3)

  Retaining lock (3) must engage in ring gear of flywheel or of drive plate.

If necessary

Turn engine at screw (4) in direction of engine rotation until retaining lock (3) can be inserted.

Remove belt pulley (5)

 Installation position of belt pulley (5) is specified by a feather key.

 Installation: Check belt pulley (5) for galling and/or damage.

Depending on findings



Replace belt pulley (5).

Replace front radial shaft sealing ring

Install in the reverse order



 Warning

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.
