Disconnecting/connecting the engine wiring harness

Removing/installing

 Danger!

Risk of explosion caused by escaping oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of injury caused by caustic burns to eyes, skin and mucous membranes from battery electrolyte (contains diluted sulfuric acid) or metal spatter due to short circuit. Risk of burn injuries caused by short circuit. Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing battery electrolyte (contains diluted sulfuric acid) or absorption of lead over the skin or orifices

No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking.

Wear acid-resistant gloves and clothing and safety glasses with side guards.

Do not place any conductive objects on the battery and avoid any short circuit from battery positive to ground.

Only fill liquid battery electrolyte (diluted sulfuric acid) into suitable and appropriately marked containers.

Remove air cleaner

Remove clamp (2)

Disconnect engine wiring harness connector for E-box engine compartment (X22/26)

 Bayonet lock.

Remove trim panel on E-box (1)

 Installation: Check seal for trim panel on E-box (1) for damage, replace if necessary.

Disconnect connector (3)

 Unscrew union nut of cable bushing (4). Pull line out of E-box (1).

Disconnect ground for left E-box engine compartment (W41/2)

Remove bracket (9) with relay of battery/voltage supply (24V on-board electrical system) (K53/4) and cable winch contactor (K53)

 Mark leads.

Detach line from starter on connector sleeve for 24 V circuit 30

 Pull line out of E-box (1).

Detach line for 12V alternator on connector sleeve 12 V circuit 30

 Pull line out of E-box (1).

Pull plug of engine preheating (7) out of holddown clamp.

 Only for cooling package code HP1.

Disconnect plug connection of automatic transmission (X22/2) at automatic transmission

 Disconnect tie strap for line on oil filler pipe.

Disconnect ground line of transmission (8)

 Remove ground line for transmission (8) on frame.

Remove output speed sensor of transmission (B49)

Install in reverse order

Read out fault memory and erase

 STAR DIAGNOSIS
Stored faults which can result from lines being disconnected or from simulation during removal and installation or test work, have to be processed and erased in the fault memories after completing the work



Connect up STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory
