Remove/install

Danger!

Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off the lifting platform.

Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer.

Remove lower engine compartment paneling

Installation: Install engine compartment paneling only after engine test run.

Separate connector for O2 sensor downstream of catalytic converter (G3/1x1) and connector for O2 sensor upstream of catalytic converter (G3/2x1)

Unclip electrical lines from retainers (3)

Dismount firewall catalytic converter (157) from front exhaust system (1) by unscrewing bolts (2)

Installation: Replace bolts (2). Check rivet nuts at firewall catalytic converter (157) and if necessary.

Replace rivet nuts in firewall catalytic converter.

Detach firewall catalytic converter (157) from bracket (7) by removing bolt (8)

Installation: Replace bolt (8).

Remove shield (4)

Dismount exhaust manifold (5) from cylinder head by unscrewing nuts (6).

Installation: Install new nuts. (6)

Remove exhaust manifold (5) together with firewall catalytic converter (157)

Installation: Clean sealing surfaces and replace gasket (156/3).

Detach O2 sensor downstream TWC (G3/1) and O2 sensor upstream TWC (G3/2) from the firewall catalytic converter (157)

Only when replacing the firewall catalytic converter (157).

Install in the reverse order

Danger!

Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running

Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.
