| Removing | ||
| Disconnect battery ground line
| Remove viscous fan clutch
| Remove alternator | ||
| Unscrew the chain tensioner (1) from the timing case cover (3)
| Install | ||
| Screw the chain tensioner (1) into the timing case cover (3)
| Remove the cap (5) of the exhaust camshaft (6) on the left cylinder head
| Hold the exhaust camshaft (6) in the left cylinder head with a suitable socket wrench, and turn the engine at the vibration damper (4) against the direction of engine rotation (arrow) until the prescribed torque is reached | The chain tensioner (1) is released when the prescribed torque is reached.
| Turn the engine at the vibration damper (4) in the direction of engine rotation by a crank angle of 90°. | The pressure pin (2) of the chain tensioner (1) is pushed out by the spring load and stretches the timing chain over the tensioning rail.
| Install the cap (5) of the exhaust camshaft (6) | Check the cap (5) for damage, replace if required.
| Install generator | ||
| Install viscous fan clutch
| Connect ground cable to battery
Danger! | Risk of accident caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running | Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
| Perform engine test run and check engine for leaks in the area of the chain tensioner (1) |
