The contact surface (3a) on the crankshaft flange (3), the sealing lip (1d) and the protective lip (1s) of the crankshaft radial sealing ring (1) must not be oiled or greased. Oil or grease on the slanting webs of the sealing lip (1d) of the crankshaft radial sealing ring (1) prevent back-transport of engine oil in the crankcase.
While using the insertion tool, ensure without fail that the sealing lip (1d) of the crankshaft radial sealing ring (1) is correctly aligned. Otherwise, sealing by the crankshaft radial sealing ring (1) might be defective.
Cleaning
1 Clean and degrease the sealing surface on the cylinder crankcase (4) and the contact surface (3a) on the crankshaft flange (3).
Do not use any sharp-edged tools or abrasive paper for cleaning. These can damage the sealing surface on the cylinder crankcase (4) or the contact surface (3a) on the crankshaft flange (3).
2 Clean and degrease sealing surface on the new end cover (2).

Install
3 Apply sealant evenly in the form of a bead with a height and width of about 2.0 mm (0.5 mm) along the line (A) on the cylinder crankcase and on the oil pan.
The retighten line (A) identifies the sealant run. Do not spread the sealant. The sealing compound must be applied within 10 min.

4 Fit insertion tool (5) and insertion tool (6) together.
The insertion tool (5) leads during the subsequent assembly of the sealing lip (1d).
5 Slide the end cover (2) with the crankshaft radial sealing ring (1) on the insertion tool (5, 6) fitted together.
The sealing lip (1d) must point to the engine completely.
6 Detach insertion tool (6) from insertion tool (5).

7 Insert insertion tool (5) with the preassembled end cover (2) on the crankshaft flange (3).
8 Slide the end cover (2) with the crankshaft radial sealing ring (1) carefully on to contact surface on the crankshaft flange (3).
Ensure that the sealing lip (1d) is seated corrected. Otherwise, sealing of the crankshaft radial sealing ring (1) might be defective.
The sealing lip (1d) must point to the cylinder crankcase (4) completely.
9 Detach insertion tool (5) from the crankshaft flange (3).
Ensure that the protective lip (1s) is seated corrected. Otherwise, there may be premature wear to the crankshaft radial sealing ring (1).
The protective lip (1s) must point to the transmission completely.

10 Tighten bolts (7) of the end cover (2) crosswise.
Observe tightening torque.
11 Tighten bolts (8) of the end cover (2).
Observe tightening torque.
