Remove differential lock

Only on axles with code (A71) Rear axle differential lock.

Remove jam nut (15) and remove sliding block (12)

Remove dog clutch (5)

Remove wire ring (6)

Remove both locking plates (2)

8

Slacken bolts (4) and unscrew threaded rings (7)

 Mark both bearing caps (3) relative to axle housing (13).



Remove both bearing caps (3)

 Identify outer races (8) and tapered roller bearing (9) relative to each other.

Lift off differential (10) and remove outer races (8)



Install

Insert differential (10) with outer races (8) into axle housing (13)

 If tapered roller bearings (9) are run-in, observe markings on outer races (8).

Install both bearing caps (3)

 Fit bearing caps (3) in accordance with the marking and tighten to approx. 30 Nm. Spin ring gear (11) a few times and knock onto bearing caps (3) using a rubber hammer.

Screw both threaded rings (7) onto outer races (8) as far as the stop



Tighten bolts (4) of bearing caps (3)
