Remove | |||
Danger | Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. | Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
1 | Park the vehicle on a leveled and flat place to work safely | Shim the vehicle front wheels to avoid its unintentional displacement.
2 | Lift the vehicle and support it on stands conveniently placed under the side members | Do not lift the vehicle by supporting the jack at the center of the axles.
3 | Turn off the main switch of the vehicle
4 | Remove the wheels |
| |
Removing the wheels facilitates accessing the armature fastening point, but removing the armatures is also possible without removing the wheels.
5 | Remove the adjustable armature (1) and the fixed armature (2) | Remove the self-locking nuts (7) and the armature joint screws (6).
Before disassembling the armatures, note and mark the original position of the screws and the respective nuts to mount them at the same positions.
6 | Remove the adjustable armatures (1) from the screw terminals (12) | Loosen the locking screws nuts (15), remove the locking screws (14) and loosen the screw terminals of the adjustable armature (12) from the central rod.
7 | Remove the joint tensioning bushings (11) | Support the armature adapter (eye) (10) in a press and using a suitable assembly pin or an iron bushing suitable to the size of the joint tensioning bushings (11), pull the bushing out of the armature adapter (eye) (10).
The procedures to remove and install the fixed armature bushings and the adjustable armature screw terminals (12) are similar.
8 | Clean bushings lodging in the armature adapter (eye) (10) | Remove any existing burrs from the sharp edges of the housing or the bushings.
Install | |||
9 | Install the joint tensioning bushing (11) in the armature adapter (eye) (10) | Using the same assembly pin or bushing used when removing, install the new joint tensioning bushing (11) in the armature adapter (eye) (10), by pressing the bushing until it is centered in the housing, showing the same measure "B" on both sides of the armature adapter (eye) (10).
Measurement B (in both sides) for the bushing centering
10 | Install the adjustable armature (1) on the screw terminals of the adjustable armature (12) | Mount the armature by fully screwing the adjustable armature screw terminals (12) to the central rod, insert the locking screws (14), slightly tighten the locking screws nuts (15) until touching, without locking the terminal threads, and adjust the armature length to dimension “A”.
Thoroughly clean the terminal threads and lubricate them with a light layer of lubricant, only enough to prevent the oxidation of the threads.
.Measurement A of the tension struts adjustment between the joint bushing centers
11 | Install the fixed armature (2) | Install the armature joint screws (6), place the flat washers (8) and tighten the self-locking nuts (7).
On the drive axle, the fixed armature (2) is installed on the right-hand side of the vehicle and, on the 3rd auxiliary axle, on the left-hand side. Mount the screws and nuts at their original positions, as identified prior to disassembly.
Type 958.092/16/18Mounting of fixed and adjustable tension arms on the axles (with self-clinching nuts)
Type 695.304, 693.127, 695.301, 693.127Fastening of the control arms
12 | Install the adjustable armature (1) to the holders | Install the adjustable armature (1) on the brackets, insert the armature joint screws (6), install the flat washers (8) and tighten the self-locking nuts (7).
On the drive axle, the adjustable armature (1) is installed on the left-hand side of the vehicle and, on the 3rd auxiliary axle, on the right-hand side. Mount the screws and nuts at their original positions, as identified prior to disassembly.
Type 958.092/160/164/166/184/186Mounting of fixed and adjustable tension arms on the brackets (with self-clinching nuts)
Type 695.304, 693.127, 695.301, 693.127Fastening of the control arms
13 | Install the vehicle wheels |
| |
14 | Check the alignment of the drive axle using an appropriate device | Before aligning the rear axles, checking and, if necessary, adjusting the steering geometry is advisable
First, adjust the alignment of the drive axle, then the alignment of the auxiliary 3rd shaft.
15 | Align the drive axle | To align the drive axle, loosen the locking screws (14) nuts (15) and, with an open-end wrench in the key holder for adjusting the armature (13) of the adjustable armature central rod, rotate the central rod until the correct alignment obtained, indicated by the alignment equipment.
Attention: when adjusting the axle alignment, the central rod of the adjustable armature should be rotated a little beyond the required set point, then returned to the correct set point, to relieve the stress exerted on the rubber bushings. At this point, we note that the central rod of the armature can be rotated without much effort.
Repeating the same adjustment procedures, check and adjust the alignment of the auxiliary 3rd axle.
16 | Tighten the locking screws nuts (15) in the armature screw terminals (1) | Type 958.092/160/164/166/184/186Nuts for stopper bolts for adjustment of tension arms
Type 695.304, 693.127, 695.301, 693.127Lock bolt nuts of the control arms adjustment
17 | Turn on the main switch of the vehicle
18 | Remove the stands conveniently placed under the side members
19 | Take the vehicle for a test-drive and check its behavior |
