MODEL 639.601/603/605/701/703/705/711/713/811/813/815 with CODE (EN8) Sound 50 APS radio

The location of the vehicle, as well as the direction and distance to the destination (after entering the destination) are determined with the aid of the navigation system. This system calculates the data required to reach the destination (destination-oriented navigation).

The navigation system is activated by pressing the "NAV" button on the radio and navigation unit (SOUND 50 APS) (A2/56). The radio and navigation unit (SOUND 50 APS) (A2/56) features an integrated navigation processor with a CD drive for digital data. The destination is input with the assistance of menus on the operating unit of the radio and navigation unit (SOUND 50 APS) (A2/56) and this input is processed by the navigation processor of the radio and navigation unit (SOUND 50 APS) (A2/56).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The user can enter the destination in the radio and navigation unit (SOUND 50 APS) (A2/56) in the following ways:

Address entry

Destination via map

Special destinations (e.g. train station, airport)

Last destination

Predictive text input

While entering a destination the letters which are still missing are completed from an existing list. The predictive speller refers to the entry of the destination and the street during destination-oriented navigation.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The "Special Destinations" menu is supplemented by the "Bypassing other Locations" and "National Destinations" submenus. The "National Destinations" menu is subdivided into an additional submenu.

Position finding

The navigation processor in the radio and navigation unit
(SOUND 50 APS) (A2/56) continually calculates the position of the vehicle using the following procedures:

Basic position finding (dead reckoning)

Map-based position finding

Global Positioning System (GPS) position finding

The navigation processor of the radio and navigation unit (SOUND 50 APS) (A2/56) calculates through constant comparison of the positioning results of these 3procedures the most likely position of the vehicle.

Route calculation

The route is calculated in the navigation processor of the radio and navigation unit (SOUND 50 APS) (A2/56) in accordance with the destination entry by the driver or automatically after a deviation to the advised route.

With the dynamic destination-oriented navigation system, the route calculation is influenced automatically by incorporating traffic information.

The calculated route is stored in the navigation processor of the radio and navigation unit (SOUND 50 APS) (A2/56).

Destination-oriented navigation

Destination-oriented navigation begins once the navigation processor of the radio and navigation unit (SOUND 50 APS) (A2/56) has calculated the route. The destination-oriented navigation is supplemented by the voice output from the vehicle speakers.
