Fault and warning messages

In the event of any operating faults the corresponding fault messages and warning messages are faded in on the display of the multifunction display (A1p13). These messages are divided into three categories corresponding to their priority.

Category 1

Error messages with highest priority. These messages cannot be acknowledged. If they occur a brief signal tone is output and the fault is shown on the display. Any fault displays of categories 2 and 3 are hidden.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Category 2

Error messages with medium priority. These messages can be acknowledged with the reset button (A1s1). If they occur, a short chime is sounded and the fault is displayed on the screen. Any fault displays of category 3 are hidden.

Category 3

Error messages with the lowest priority. These messages can be acknowledged with the reset button (A1s1). If several faults of the same category are present at the same time, the display cycles through the messages at intervals of t = 5 s. When the ignition is switched on, all the fault displays from the previous trip are erased (not in fault memory!).

Up to 31.8.05 "xx Problems" are displayed in the multifunction display (A1p13), as of 1.9.05

"xx messages" is displayed.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Faults are only displayed after "engine running" is detected. When a message occurs, a warning chime with f = 2048 Hz sounds for t = 187 ms. If the request only exists for a short time, the fault message is displayed for at least t = 2 s. Faults of priority 1 are not written into the cyclic memory. Faults of priorities 2 and 3 are subdivided into 2 classes:

Class A: The faults are written into the cyclic memory

Class B: The faults are not written into the cyclic memory

The current fault message is displayed with the reset button (A1s1) (only priority 2 + 3). Class A fault messages are stored in the error block after acknowledgment before the service screen. It is possible to change into the fault block at any time using the system selection button (S110s3). The faults can be displayed using the scroll forward/back pushbutton (S110s1) in the order in which they were acknowledged.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After the fault last acknowledged the vehicle status displays appear (e. g. service, oil level). After acknowledgment the display changes to the previous screen or, if further faults are present, to the next fault screen. If several messages are current, a low-priority message can never obscure a message of higher priority. If several faults of the same category are present at the same time, the display cycles through the messages at intervals of t = 5 s. The warning chime does not sound again for repeated displays. New fault messages of the same or higher priority are displayed immediately. A maximum of 16 faults can be displayed. If more than 16 faults exist, the oldest are overwritten.

Displays and indicator lamps

Some faults are also indicated by means of an indicator lamp. If the fault occurs, the indicator lamp is actuated in parallel with the display. The lamp remains on as long as the fault persists, regardless of whether the fault has already been acknowledged on the display and sent to the background.

Reminder of acknowledged faults at end of trip

If there are faults present, the display skips to the fault block (no warning tone) when changing over to "Circuit 15 OFF". 2nd and 3rd priority fault, which have been displayed before switching over to "Circuit 15 OFF" (i. e. are not acknowledged), are connected to the fault block as further faults. 1st priority faults (e.g. lights left on warning) overlay the above mentioned reminder function.
