Location

The low temperature cooling system shutoff valve is located at the front on the engine above the coolant pump.

Task

 Closing off the low-temperature cooling system at cold start

 Temperature control for the low-temperature cooling system when driving.

Design

The low temperature cooling system shutoff valve has an inlet below and two outputs on the side which open and close at the same time .

The coil resistance at room temperature is approx. 12 Ω.

Without actuation the shutoff valve is open.

Function

If the low temperature cooling system shutoff valve is actuated at the ground end by the ME-SFI [ME] control unit it closes the inlet in the low-temperature cooling system.

Actuation takes place under the following operating conditions:

 For as cold start the shutoff valve is closed together

with the heating system shutoff valve so that the engine heats up quicker.

 Further actuation takes place dependent on the

fuel temperature, the temperature in the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (integral temperature sensor) and the exhaust gas recirculation rate.

The following components are attached on the low-temperature cooling system:

 Low temperature radiator

 EGR [ARF] actuator motors

 Exhaust gas recirculation connecting pipe to intake manifold

 ME control unit

 Fuel cooler.
