1 Vacuum pump
B40/9 Engine oil temperature sensor
The engine oil temperature sensor is located above the vacuum pump in the oil duct on crankcase at the left rear.
Task
The engine oil temperature sensor detects the engine oil temperature.
Output signals
Direct output signals
The engine oil temperature sensor passes on the change in resistance for determination of the engine oil temperature to the CDI control unit (N3/28).
Design
The engine oil temperature sensor possess an integral precision resistor with a negative temperature coefficient (NTC).
Function
The NTC measuring resistor alters its electrical resistance in line with the engine oil temperature. Electrical resistance decreases as temperature increases.
The change in resistance results in a voltage signal, which is used by the CDI control unit to determine the engine oil temperature.
