Safety fuel shutoff is activated in the following cases:

Crash signal from the restraint systems control unit (N2/7) with activation of the airbags
- The motor electronics control unit (N3/10) switches off the fuel pump with fuel level sensor (M3/3) and briefly actuates the fuel injection valves (Y62/1, Y62/2, Y62/3 and Y62/4) so that the fuel system becomes unpressurized.

Mechanical faults of the throttle valve actuator (M16/6)
- By shutting off the fuel injection valves, the engine speed is limited to max. 3000 rpm.

Missing signals from the crankshaft speed sensor (L8) "engine speed signal"
- Actuation of the fuel pump is interrupted.
