1 Crankshaft
b Offset of left cylinder bank
a Offset of right cylinder bank
The crankcase and cylinders is a grey iron casting. The cylinders are arranged offset in the 15° V angle. Cylinder 1 is located at the front left opposite the power transmission.
The very tight V angle and the specific arrangement of the cylinders makes it possible to build the engine shorter than an inline 6-cylinder and narrower than a V6-cylinder. This design, however, necessitates offsetting the crank assembly.
In other words:
The cylinders are offset by 12.5 mm to the outside (a, b) relative to the middle of the engine (fulcrum point of the crankshaft).
