General

The central gateway control unit sends the CAN messages together with information for displaying the maintenance information over the frame CAN to the instrument cluster control unit corresponding to the cockpit equipment installed.

The maintenance information display is generated in the respective instrument cluster control unit and is shown in the following display devices, depending on the cockpit equipment installed:

Vehicles with code  J6A (Classic cockpit):

Multifunction display of instrument cluster control unit

Vehicles with code  J6B (Multimedia cockpit) or code  J6C (Multimedia cockpit, interactive):

Instrument cluster screen control unit

The following maintenance information is displayed:

Messages for a service due date

Service information

Messages for a service due date

Messages for a service due date are text warnings that indicate that maintenance work is pending. They contain the "service due date" and "remaining driving distance" forecast data for the listed maintenance item or its urgency status (e.g. "Service due").

They are automatically generated by the maintenance system according to their urgency level and shown on the multifunction display or instrument cluster screen control unit depending on the cockpit equipment installed.

If service due date messages are present, they are shown each time the ignition is switched on along with any other pending messages. Messages can only be canceled by acknowledging them.

Five message urgency levels are differentiated:

No message

Early warning

Service due

Immediate service (can be acknowledged)

Service now (cannot be acknowledged)

All acknowledgeable messages for a service due date must be acknowledged. The associated service dates have to be observed and the maintenance operations have to be carried out.

If service due date messages are skipped, the operational and road safety of the vehicle can be jeopardized. If a maintenance operation is carried out late or not at all, the wear at the vehicle or at the major assemblies will increase at any rate.

Early warning

This is information on the maintenance item and the remaining driving distance until the service is due.

The life cycle consumption is still below 100 %.

Service will be due within the next few days and the life cycle consumption will then be 100 %.

When the service due date message is acknowledged, the next pending service message is then shown, where applicable.

Service due

The life cycle consumption is 100 %.

The due service date was reached or exceeded.

The gray indicator lamp with the wrench symbol appears as the display.

When a service due date message is acknowledged, the next message of the "Service due" urgency level is shown, where applicable.

Immediate service (can be acknowledged)

The life cycle consumption has reached the exceeding limit.

The due service date was significantly exceeded.

A highlighted text information is displayed in yellow.

When the service due date message is acknowledged, the next pending service message is then shown, where applicable.

Service now (cannot be acknowledged)

The life cycle consumption has extended far beyond the overrun limit.

The Service due date was exceeded to an extreme extent.

A text information highlighted in yellow is shown and the yellow indicator lamp with the wrench symbol. When the maximum brake wear is reached, the indicator lamp also appears with the brake symbol.

When the service due date message is acknowledged, the next pending service message is then shown, where applicable.

Service information

Service information can be called up at any given time from the "Maintenance" menu in the instrument cluster and - depending on the cockpit equipment installed - shown on the multifunction display or the instrument cluster screen control unit.

The menu is operated using the following controls depending on the cockpit equipment installed:

Vehicles with code  J6A (Classic cockpit):

Left multifunction steering wheel button group

Right multifunction steering wheel button group

Vehicles with code  J6B (Multimedia cockpit) or code  J6C (Multimedia cockpit, interactive):

Finger navigation pad, left button group

The service information listed in the "Maintenance" menu for a maintenance item contains the same information as the service due date messages. The interval number is also shown.

If the text "Reset?" appears, the maintenance item can be reset using the appropriate buttons.

If the maintenance item text is not displayed with forecast data, then there is no forecast data available for the maintenance item.
