Depressurize the hydraulic system completely before starting any work on the system. Wear protective clothing and safety glasses.

Open engine hood

Remove left engine intake air duct (1)

Remove front engine cover (2)

Suction off oil out of power steering expansion reservoir (3)

 Before opening the hydraulic system the area surrounding the separation point should be cleaned thoroughly. Even the smallest dirt particles, introduced into the hydraulic components, can lead to malfunctions and a total failure of the hydraulic system.



Release clamp (4) and detach hydraulic line (30f) from power steering expansion reservoir (3)

 Collect hydraulic fluid which runs out in a suitable container and seal line connections with stop plugs.



Disconnect high-pressure expansion hose (30i) from power steering pump.

Mount connection fitting (040a) to high pressure expansion hose (30i).



Mount connecting hose (040c) to power steering pump



Connect testing unit (039) between connection fitting (040a) and connecting hose (040c)



Fit hydraulic line (30f) to power steering reservoir (3) and fasten in place using clamp (4)



Fill power steering pump and bleed

Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury from bruises and burns if you hold your hand into engine when it is started or when it is running.

Secure vehicle to prevent it moving off.

Wear closed and close-fitting work clothes.

Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

Start engine

 Keep engine speed at approx. 1,000 rpm.



Checking

Close throttle valve (039a) on testing unit (039) and check the maximum operating pressure

 Only carry out the test briefly so that the oil temperature does not rise unacceptably.

Turn off engine

Suction off oil out of power steering expansion reservoir (3)



Detach testing unit (039)

Release clamp (4) and detach hydraulic line (30f) from power steering expansion reservoir (3)

 Collect hydraulic fluid which runs out in a suitable container and seal line connections with stop plugs.



Detach connection fitting (040a) and connection hose (040c)

Install

Mount high pressure expansion hose (30i) to power steering pump

 Replace O-ring of high-pressure expansion hose (30i)



Fit hydraulic line (30f) to power steering reservoir (3) and fasten in place using clamp (4)



Fill power steering pump and bleed

Checking

Inspect power-steering pump for leaks
