Detach connector of connection line (5) from ESL (ELV) control unit (N26/5)

 Removal: Transmitter key must be inserted into the EZS control unit.

Remove steering wheel

Remove steering column tube trim with switches

Detach cover for air vent on instrument panel center section on driver-side

Remove cover below steering wheel

Remove side air vent on driver-side

Remove instrument cluster

Remove instrument cluster paneling

Detach plug of steering angle sensor (2) from steering column tube (1)

Detach universal joint (10) of steering shaft (6) from steering gear (9)

 Installation: When installing the steering shaft (6) the first thing is that the universal joint (10) must be attached to the steering gear shaft.



Unscrew bolts (7) at the firewall lead-through (8)

 Installation: Check the condition of the gasket on the firewall passage (8) and replace gasket.



Unscrew nuts (3, 4) on the brackets of the steering column tube and remove steering shaft (6) from dashboard support



Guide steering shaft (6) into the interior

Detach ESL (ELV) control unit (N26/5) from steering shaft (6)

Only when installing a new steering shaft (6).
