1 | Complete rear spring | 8 | Shackle outside plate of spring articulation
2 | Vehicle's left side rail | 9 | Spring front joint flanged screw (with nut)
3 | Rear spring rear bracket attached to the longitudinal member | 10 | Flange screw and nut fastening rear shock absorber bottom end
4 | Rear spring front bracket attached to the longitudinal member | 11 | Self-locking nuts of rear spring "U" screws
5 | Top flange screw (without nut) threaded to the shackle inside plate | 12 | Rear spring “U” clips
6 | Bottom flange screw (without nut) threaded to the shackle inside plate | 13 | Brake line for rear left side wheel (with wiring harness attached)
7 | Shackle inside plate with thread for joint screws | 14 | Rear spring limiter stop attached to the side rail |
| Remove | ||
1 | Place the vehicle on a flat and level surface | Considering that the rear springs are fundamentally important for the vehicle behavior, we suggest that the maintenance is at all times carried out on both springs - right-hand and left-hand.
Shim the front wheels to avoid vehicle accidental rolling
2 | Disconnect the negative battery cable or turn off the main switch | Loosen the screw of the ground line on the longitudinal member.
3 | Loosen both rear shock absorbers at their bottom fastening
4 | Slacken the rear wheel nuts without removing them
Danger | Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. | Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
5 | Lift the vehicle | Support the vehicle on safety stands placed safely underneath the longitudinal members, on both sides, in order to allow safe work.
The vehicle must not be lifted on only one side with the opposite wheel remaining on the ground.
In this position, the rear axle may be moved as the work demands.
6 | Slightly and carefully lift the rear axle until the rear spring joints (1) remain free | Shim the rear axle safely to remain in this position during rear springs removal and installation (1).
7 | Remove the rear wheels from the vehicle
8 | Detach the stabilizer lateral arms at the top articulations on the side rail brackets
9 | Slightly unscrew the self-locking nuts (10) from the spring U-clips (12), without releasing the rear spring (1) | The spring remains attached to the backing plate with the center pin (spike) fit in its housing.
Rear spring clip | |||
10 | Remove on the front joint, from inside, the flanged screw nut (9) | As a safety measure, the flanged screw (9) may remain in its housing.
Screw with flange of the rear spring on the front support
11 | Check the height of the shaft and, in the rear joint, remove the upper (5) and lower (6) flanged screws from the shackle. Remove the inner plate from the shackle (7) to which the screws (5) and (6) are threaded and remove the outer plate from the shackle (8) | Observe the position of the screws (5) and (6) and the plates (7) and (8).
Screw with flange of the rear spring (fixation on the rear shackles)
12 | Remove the self-locking flanged nuts (11), the spring “U” screws (12) and the clip guide positioner
13 | At front, remove the spring front joint flanged screw (9) and remove the complete rear spring (1) carefully in order not to damage the fitting bore of the master pin (spike) on the bottom support plate on the rear axle | The king-screw's housing bore on the supporting plate on the axle is important, as it defines the correct position of the spring center in relation to the axle.
| Install | ||
14 | Confirm the cleanliness of the master pin fitting bore (spike), of the seating surface of the rear spring (1) on the bottom supporting plate on vehicle rear axle
15 | Install the rear spring (1) on the supporting plate and fit the spring carefully | Observe the correct rear spring position (1) on the support on the rear axle.
16 | On the top part, install the "U" screws positioner. Apply a light layer of lubricating grease on the threads of the spring “U” screws (12) and install them on the rear springs (1) with the self-locking flanged nuts of the spring clips (11). Gently tighten on both sides, however, the final tightening will be subsequently applied when the vehicle is on the ground | Spring "U" clips (12) in poor condition or with damaged threads should be replaced together with the self-locking nuts (11)
Grease, 6820.20 | |||
17 | Check the shaft height and install on the outer rear part the spring joint shackle (8) and on the inside the inner plate of the threaded shackle (7). Tighten the flanged screws (5 and 6) not to the final torque
18 | install the spring front joint flanged screw (9) in the bracket front joint (4) and tighten from the inside, the flanged screw without the final tightening
19 | If the rear spring (1) is properly seated and aligned, tighten all nuts of the joint screws | Screw and nut with flange of the shackles on the spring shackle (back)
Screw with flange of the rear spring on the front support
Screw with flange of the rear spring (fixation on the rear shackles)
Danger | Risk of death caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. | Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer.
20 | Install the wheels, remove the trestles and support the vehicle on them
Retighten the wheel screws with the vehicle on the ground.
21 | Secure the rear shock absorbers
22 | Fasten the rear stabilizer side arms and tighten the flanged screws and nuts on the top joint with the bracket
23 | Tighten the self-locking flanged nuts of the rear spring clips screws (11) of the rear spring U screws (12) | Tighten the rear spring clip nuts (11) sequentially and crosswise.
Whenever possible, retighten the rear spring clamp nuts (11) after the vehicle has traveled approximately 500 to 1000 km.
Rear spring clip | |||
24 | Adjust the parallelism of the axles and the steering geometry | Carry out the adjustments according to the technical data corresponding to the vehicle.
25 | Do a test drive, preferably on irregular terrain | Check the vehicle's behavior. |
