Danger! | Risk of injury to skin and eyes caused by scalding from contact with hot coolant spray. Risk of poisoning caused by swallowing coolant. | Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90°C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
1 | Unscrew side cap of the expansion reservoir (2)
| Notes on coolant | ||
2 | Set heater switches to maximum heat output
3 | Check coolant level, correct if necessary
| Engine cooling system - check fluid level, adjust to correct level. Inspect anticorrosion/antifreeze protection, adjust to correct concentration | ||
4 | Fit adapter (3) and testing unit (4) onto expansion reservoir (2)
| |||
5 | Fill cooling system via the test equipment (4) with compressed air | The test pressure is about 1.0 bar.
6 | Check the pressure in the cooling system after 5 to 10 minutes | A pressure drop at the pressure gauge is visible for leaks in the cooling system: Check cooler, coolant lines, coolant pipes, coolant hoses, cap (1) and expansion reservoir (2); remove leaks if necessary.
If there is no leak present and there is still a pressure drop:
Check engine in the area of the cylinder head gasket for coolant outlet; to this if necessary
Remove/install cylinder head
7 | Relieve the overpressure and remove adapter (3) and test equipment (4) on expansion reservoir (2)
8 | Check coolant level, correct if necessary
| Engine cooling system - check fluid level, adjust to correct level. Inspect anticorrosion/antifreeze protection, adjust to correct concentration |
