Check

Danger!

Risk of personal and material damages when starting the engine with the gearbox shifted in gear. Risk of personal damages when carrying out jobs with the engine heated up and running

Make sure the gearbox is in neutral.

Utilize appropriate clothes and pay attention to the engine's heated-up and moving parts.

1

Starting the engine

2

Check the turbocharger (1) for uncommon noise and vibration

Uncommon noise and vibration may be caused by turbocharger's rotor damage and by lack of tightness in the intake, supercharging and exhaust systems.

3

Check the tightness in the pipes between the air cleaner and the turbocharger (1). Correct if necessary

The inlet of foreign matter damages the turbocharger's rotors (1).

4

Check the tightness on the pipes of the overcharging system. Correct if necessary

Leaks can be checked by feeling and through the application of soap foam along the piping, connections and hoses.

5

Check the tightness of the exhaust system

Leaks are detected through the discoloration by heating of the leakage area.

6

Stop the engine

Wait for the engine to cool down.

7

Remove the exhaust pipe at the turbocharger's outlet

AR14.15-B-6302B

8

Remove the turbocharger's inlet hose

9

Check the rotors for damages caused by foreign matter

Foreign matter getting in the intake or exhaust system will damage the turbocharger's rotors. Small particles, wear off the leading edge of the blades. Hard, larger particles, tend to tear or cut the blades. Soft material, as paper, cotton waste, or rubber parts, will bend the blades backward, in the opposite direction of the blade rotation.

If damages occur caused by foreign matter, a complete cleaning in the exhaust manifold and in the air intake is essential.

Replace the damaged turbocharger (1).

10

Check the free operation of the shaft (2) and the axial and radial clearances

The shaft (2) of the turbocharger (1) has ti turn smoothly and uniformly. Generally, the excessive radial and/or axial clearance, causes friction between the rotors and the housings of the turbocharger, generating noisy operation.

AR09.40-B-5910-01B

In case of damages , replace the turbocharger (1).

11

Check the condition of the control valve, of the shaft (4) and of the actuator of the deviation valve (3) of the turbocharger (1)

AR09.40-B-5910-02B

*124589152101

In case of damages in the valve, seized shaft or with excessive play and damages/leaks on the actuator, replace the turbocharger (1).
