Drain the oil sump



Remove the rocker mechanism and the tappet rods

Remove the spark plug wires

Remove the side cover of the rod and tappet compartment

Install: Replace the gaskets on the plate covers and apply a sealing agent to the gasket from the cap side.

Remove the tappets

Install: Inspect the tappets and, if necessary, replace them.

Remove the ignition coil assembly

 For 376.922 engines.

Remove the hydraulic pump

Remove the air compressor

Remove the distribution housing cap

Turn the rack, positioning the engine with the oil sump facing up

Remove the oil sump

 For 376.922 engines

Remove the oil pump

Rotate the engine in the rotation direction until the camshaft gear marks match the crankshaft marks

Loosen the screw (5) and remove the gear (2) from the valve camshaft



Remove the spacer washer

Loosen the screws and remove the pressure plate



Remove the camshaft (1)

 Be careful not to damage the bushings, both when removing and installing.



Check the condition of the valve camshaft (1)

Max. allowable eccentricity with the camshaft (1) supported by the external necks.

Install in reverse order

 When installing the gear (2) on the camshaft (1), note the slots matching and assemble the keyway.

 Also make sure that the tooth marked "1" on the crankshaft gear (1) is placed between both teeth marked "1-1" on the camshaft (2).

Maximum allowable perpendicularity deviation of the gear relative to its axis.
