Remove/Install

1

Remove cylinder head covers with ignition coils (6)

AR01.20-P-5014VT

2

Position crankshaft to 0° after ignition TDC of cylinder 1

The engine must not be turned back as otherwise the chain can toe in and this can lead to engine damage.

AR05.10-P-6858VT

3

Remove chain tensioner (5)

AR05.10-P-7800AC

4

Remove camshaft bearing bridge, left (7) and camshaft bearing bridge, right (8)

AR05.20-P-7103VT

Installation: Check basic position of camshafts, if required:

AR05.10-P-6858VT

Set the basic position of camshafts

AR05.20-P-6020VT

5

Press clearance compensation element (11) of the related cylinder with a 2 mm diameter drift out of the roller-type rocker arm (9)

Do not use a magnet!

The slide surface of the compensation element (11) would get magnetized. This can cause minute iron chips to accumulate, which in turn can damage the compensation element (11) and the cam.

Installation: the small plate (10) at the top of the roller-type rocker arm (9) must point to the compensation element with the slits facing downwards (11). Compensation elements which have not been replaced, must be reinstalled at the same point.

6

Install in the reverse order
