Danger | Risk of explosion caused by welding or soldering work on closed air conditioning system. Risk of poisoning caused by inhaling overheated refrigerant vapors. Risk of injury to skin and eyes caused by contact with liquid refrigerant. | Never perform welding work on or near a closed air conditioning system. No smoking or open flames. Wear safety glasses and protective gloves. Work only in well ventilated areas. Carry out repair work on the air conditioning system circuit only after the system has been drained.
Topical note | Protect air conditioning circuit and components from moisture when carrying out repair work
1 | Open rear liftgate | ||
2 | Connect pressure and suction line of air conditioning vacuum and recycling unit to pressure side test and filling valve and to intake side test and filling valve | Observe operating instructions for air conditioning system vacuum and recycling unit.
3 | Unscrew cover cap over pressure side shutoff valve (2) and intake side shutoff valve (3)
4 | Screw in intake side shutoff valve (3) up to end stop
Warning | Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. | Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.
5 | Start engine and switch on air conditioning | This pushes the remaining refrigerant into the air conditioning system via the open pressure side.
6 | Switch off engine when the shutoff pressure of 25.5 0.5 bar is reached | Observe manometer of air conditioning vacuum and recycling unit.
7 | Screw in pressure side shutoff valve (2) up to end stop
8 | Suction off remaining refrigerant from refrigerant compressor (1) via intake side only | Slowly open shutoff valve on intake side manometer of air conditioning vacuum and recycling unit.
9 | After draining the refrigerant compressor, close shutoff valve on intake side manometer of air conditioning vacuum and recycling unit
10 | Remove filling screw (4)
11 | Extract oil for refrigerant compressor | Clean extraction hose on the outside before inserting.
Commercially available devices/tools:
12 | Remove drain screw (6) | Drain remaining oil for refrigerant compressor completely. Collect oil in suitable pan.
13 | Screw in drain screw (6) with new seal | Bolt, refrigerant compressor oil drain
14 | Pour in specified quantity of oil for refrigerant compressor
| Compressor oils (specification 362.0) | ||
| |||
The oil for the refrigerant compressor is hygroscopic. Immediately seal oil container tightly and immediately pour the measured oil filling capacity into the refrigerant compressor.
Total filling capacity - compressor oil for refrigerant compressor
15 | Screw in filling screw (4) with new seal. | Bolt, refrigerant compressor oil replenishment
16 | Evacuate refrigerant compressor (1) via intake side | Open shutoff valve on intake side manometer of air conditioning vacuum and recycling unit.
17 | After evacuation, close shutoff valve on intake side manometer of air conditioning vacuum and recycling unit | Observe operating instructions for air conditioning system vacuum and recycling unit.
18 | Open shutoff valve on pressure side manometer of air conditioning vacuum and recycling unit and pour in refrigerant via pressure side test and filling valve | Only add the noted-down quantity of extracted refrigerant.
19 | Unscrew pressure side shutoff valve (2) and intake side shutoff valve (3) up to end stop
20 | Fasten cover cap over pressure side shutoff valve (2) and intake side shutoff valve (3)
21 | Remove pressure and suction line of air conditioning vacuum and recycling unit |
