Danger ! | Risk of accident from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. | Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.
Danger ! | Risk of injury to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolantspray. Risk of poisoning from swallowing coolant. | Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90 °C. Open cap slowly and release the pressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.
| Notes on coolant | ||
1 | Inspect cooling and heating system for leaks and proper condition before replacing the coolant
2 | Remove cap (1) from filler neck of expansion reservoir on rear cooling system | Next to expansion reservoir for fluid coupling.
The coolant expansion reservoir cap on the engine radiator must not be opened.
3 | Set temperature control on heater operating unit, heater-air conditioning system or the automatic climate control to full heat output
4 | Remove drain plug (2) from engine radiator and drain coolant. | Catch coolant in suitable vessel. Note coolant quantity, up to approx. 105 l of coolant may flow out.
5 | Unscrew drain screw (5) from left and right of crankcase, drain coolant
6 | Detach coolant hose (4) below the fluid coupling | To enable coolant circuit to be fully drained. The old coolant and the corrosion residues must be completely flushed out.
If there is severe contamination:
| |||
Clean engine cooling system, subject to separate repair order.
7 | Mount coolant hose (4) under the fluid coupling
8 | Screw in drain screw (5) on crankcase at left and right | Coolant drain plug to cylinder crankcase
9 | Screw-in drain screw (2) on engine radiator | Coolant drain plug to radiator
10 | Pour in coolant | Use only coolant of the specified composition.
Coolant | |||
11 | Start engine and bleed cooling and heating system | Run engine at varying speeds for approx. 3 minutes.
12 | Refill coolant up to the max. mark
13 | Screw-on cap (1) for filler neck of expansion reservoir on rear cooling system |
