| Tips relating to repairs to the brake caliper | ||
1 | Identifying the brake caliper type
Danger! | Risk of death from slipping or from the car falling off the lift | Place the vehicle on a suitable lift so that the wheels of the front axle, rear driving axle and rear driven axle securely supported on all four or six support plates of the lift, at the lifting points determined by the vehicle manufacturer.
2 | Lift the vehicle | ||
3 | Remove the wheels | ||
4 | Check the brake caliper guides | If necessary, replace the bearing sleeves:
5 | Completely release the service and parking brakes
6 | Check the clearance of the clamp with the pads mounted | By pushing and pulling the caliper by hand in the axial direction (see arrow "A" at the bottom of the main figure), it should move within the specified dimensions.
Test values of the front brake calipers
Test values of the rear brake calipers
If this motion is not possible by hand, the components of the fixed and floating bearings should be repaired or replaced by repair kits specific for each type of calipers.
7 | Remove the brake pads | ||
8 | Clear any dirt existing on the respective guide pin (4)
9 | Manually push the brake caliper | Applies only to the SB 7000 brake caliper version 1 with rubber sleeve (6c) and version 2 with rubber sleeve (6a).
The caliper should slide freely throughout the stroke of the guide pin in the direction indicated by arrow "A" (with the pads removed).
Front caliper | |||
Rear caliper | |||
10 | Fully return the pressure parts with the fanfold guards (13), turning counter-clockwise the clearance adjuster at point (61) | For the SB7000 brake calipers version 1, the hex is embedded into the adjuster rod (23).
For the SB7000 calipers version 2 and the current SN7000 calipers, the adjuster is driven by the moving hex (61) fitted to the rod (23).
11 | Pull the brake caliper (1) outwards
12 | Push the caliper in the direction indicated by the arrow, as shown in the upper right figure "X" | Check that the brake caliper is free, without outside interference. If necessary, the rubber sleeves (6a, 6c) and the DU sleeve must be replaced.
13 | Hold the caliper pressed to take the "X" dimension and write down the displayed value
14 | Pull the brake caliper so that it moves away from the holder, to take the "Y" dimension, and write down the displayed value
15.1 | For the SB7000 calipers, check the offset between the "X" and "Y" dimensions to yield a definition on the status of the guides | For the SB7000 calipers with version 1 (6b) and version 2 (6a) rubber sleeves, when the offset between "Y" and "X" is greater than the forecast offset, the calipers should be replaced:
Front brake caliper | |||
Rear brake caliper | |||
15.2 | For the SN7000 calipers, check the offset between the "X" and "Y" dimensions to yield a definition on the status of the guides | For the SN7000 calipers with DU-type sleeves (6c), when the offset between "Y" and "X" exceeds the forecast offset, the calipers should be replaced:
Front brake caliper | |||
Rear brake caliper | |||
16 | Mount the pads | ||
17 | Mount the wheels | ||
Danger! | Risk of death from slipping or from the car falling off the lift | Place the vehicle on a suitable lift so that the wheels of the front axle, rear driving axle and rear driven axle securely supported on all four or six support plates of the lift, at the lifting points determined by the vehicle manufacturer.
18 | Lower the vehicle |
