| Remove | ||
1 | Remove the wheels. | ||
2 | Release the parking brake | Pressurize the pneumatic system
| Indications about the brake caliper repair | ||
3 | Identify the type of installed brake caliper to be checked
4 | Check the adjuster device | Before removing the pads, check if the automatic adjusting mechanism is operating correctly
5 | Remove the pin clip (26), the flat washer (45), press the pad clip (11), remove the snap ring (44) and remove the pads (12)
6.1 | Remove the rubber cap (37) from the adjuster | Only calipers with rubber cover (37):
Remove the rubber cap (37) from the adjuster pulling it backwards by the its protuberance taking care not to loose the mobile adapter, part (61)
The 10mm hexagonal part (61) of the adapter is a mobile part.
6.2 | Remove the plastic cap (37.1) from the adjuster | Only calipers with plastic cap (37.1):
Remove the plastic cap (37.1) from the adjuster with the help of a screwdriver.
The 8 mm hexagonal part (S) is incorporated in the play adapter.
7 | Return totally the pressure parts (13) with folded protectors turning the play adjuster in the clockwise direction | For calipers with rubber cover (37): The adjuster (23) must never turn without the adapter (61) and if it is not well fitted. If the return torque exceeds the maximum admissible torque the adapter (61) will break. Try again with the new adapter (never used before). If the adapter breaks again, the caliper must be replaced since damages had been found out in its mechanism.
For calipers with plastic cover (37.1): Do not overload or damage the 8mm adjuster. Use only a 8 mm box wrench in good conditions or a socket with 1/4 fit and a lever not longer than 100mm. Do not damage the hexagonal part and do not turn up to a torque higher than 16 Nm. In the case you break the adjuster's hexagonal part the complete piece must be replaced.
Check the adjuster device
| Install | ||
8 | Clean well the pads lodging in the support | If the pad's clip (11) presents damages or too much corrosion, replace it.
9 | Push the caliper outwards in the direction indicated by the “A” arrow and install a new external pad (12) | Pay attention to assemble the pads with the friction material side facing the disc surface.
10 | Push the caliper inwards in the direction indicated by the “B” arrow and install a new internal pad (12)
11 | Adjust the play between the pads and disc turning the adjuster in the clockwise direction until the pads contact the disc. Then, return the adjuster with 2 clicks (snaps) | For calipers with rubber cover (37): The adjuster (23) must never turn without the adapter (61) and if it is not well fitted.
For calipers with plastic cover (37.1): Do not overload the 8 mm box wrench. Use only a 8mm box wrench in good conditions or a socket with 1/4 fit and a lever not longer than 100mm. Do not damage the hexagonal part and do not turn up to a torque higher than 16 Nm. In the case you break the adjuster's hexagonal part the complete piece must be replaced.
Check the adjuster device
Adjust the disc brake play. The wheel hub must turn freely with the hands after the brakes are relieved.
12.1 | Install a new rubber cap (37) of the adjuster | For calipers with rubber cover
The protuberance of the rubber cover (37) must be positioned as indicated by the arrow in the picture. This ensures easiness of access for the removal.
Put a thin layer of lubricant inside it.
12.2 | Install a new plastic cap (37.1) | For calipers with plastic cover
Put a thin layer of lubricant in the cover's fit part.
13 | Adjust the pad's clip (11) to the caliper's fitting part (1) and press it against the pad spring to permit the assemblage of the lock pin (44) | If the pad's clip (11) presents damages or too much corrosion, it must be replaced.
14 | Install the washer (45) and the clip (26) on the pin (44) | The lock pin (44) must be positioned with the clip (26) face down.
15 | The new pads need to be seated | Forced braking or long duration braking must be avoided during the seating process. |
