Danger! | Danger of fatal injury from vehicle sliding or falling from elevator | Position the vehicle on a suitable elevator, front, rear drive and rear trailing axle wheels resting safely on four or six elevator plates, at the lifting points determined by the vehicle manufacturer.
1 | Raise the vehicle | ||
2 | Remove the wheels. | ||
| Indications on brake caliper repair | ||
3 | Identify the caliper type
4 | Release service and parking brakes
5 | Push caliper (1) axially | Direction indicated by the arrow; the assembly will have to slide along the guide pins.
6 | Check brake pad clearance | Utilize a feeler gauge (J).
If the clearance is much larger or much smaller, the adjuster may not be working correctly. In this case, check the operation, according to brake caliper type.
7.1 | Remove the rubber lid (37) | Only version 2 SN7000 and SB7000 brake caliper:
Pull the lid by the rim, taking care not to lose the separate hexagonal adapter (61) fitted to the internal rod of the fixed adjuster (23). Do not use any tool to avoid damage to the seal
7.2 | Remove the plastic adjuster lid (37.1) | Only version 1 SB7000 brake caliper
Screwdriver. | |||
8 | Turn the clearance adjuster counterclockwise by 2 to 3 clicks | Clearance increase between disc and brake pad.
On version 2 SN7000 and SB7000 brake caliper: Turn the adjuster (23) with the adapter (61). If the turning torque for the adapter (61) exceeds the maximum allowed, the adapter will break Try again with a new (unused) adapter (61). If the adapter (61) breaks for the second time and if damage to the internal caliper mechanism is confirmed, the caliper will have to be replaced.
On version 1 SB7000 brake calipers:Do not overload nor damage the adjuster hexagon. Use only a box wrench or an adequate socket, taking care not to damage the hexagon (S) and do not apply a torque above 16 Nm. In case of hexagon breakage of the adjuster (S), the brake caliper will have to be replaced.
9 | Apply the vehicle brake 5 to 10 times | Pressure of approx. 2 bar. If the spanner or socket turns clockwise in regular steps, the clearance adjuster is working normally. With increasing actuation the adjustment steps will be reduced. If the wrench or socket will not turn, or if it turns only on the first actuation, or if it turns back and forth on each actuation, the automatic adjuster is defective, and in this case the caliper must be replaced.
10.1 | Install the rubber lid (37). | Brake caliper SB7000 version 2 and SN7000:
When installing the lid, position the rim in a way to allow easy removal by hand later on.
If there is no brake pad replacement and a new lid is used, grease its inside part.
10.2 | Install the plastic lid (37.1) | Version 1 SB7000 brake caliper
If there is no brake pad replacement, a new lid will have to be installed; grease the fitting area and the sealing ring.
11 | Check normal brake pad clearance
12 | Connect the external components | Only if there are connectors or sensors.
13 | Install the wheels | ||
Danger! | Danger of fatal injury from vehicle sliding or falling from elevator | Position the vehicle on a suitable elevator, front, rear drive and rear trailing axle wheels resting safely on four or six elevator plates, at the lifting points determined by the vehicle manufacturer.
14 | Lower the vehicle |
