Disassemble

The works described here are basic, the springs can present small differences according to the manufacturer and type of vehicle.

Considering that the front springs have a fundamental importance in the vehicle behavior, we suggest that their maintenance is always carried out encompassing both springs, the right and the left one.

1

Remove the vehicle springs

Mark the shim position (19), it is located in the longitudinal inclination and must be installed always in the same position.

2

Fasten the spring to a vise and remove from the front (12) and rear clamps (13) the self-lockig nuts (16), the bolts (15) and the spacer bushings (14)

The upper (9) and lower (8) shims do not use separators.

3

Remove the nut (11) and the master bolt (spring spike) (10)

Insert a long rod in the master bolt place in oder to remove the shims, the leafs and the separators.

4

Remove the upper shims (9), the leafs (1) to (6), the respective separators (7) and the lower shims (8)

Clean

5

Clean well all the spring components

The leafs can not be washed with water jets or acids. Dry clean the leafs, and if they present rust, remove it with a thin steel brush.

Check

6

Check the condition of the leafs and other components

Replace:

Worn or cracked leafs.

Bent or deformed leafs.

Deformed clamps.

Self locking nuts.

Articulation bushings (18) of the adapters and shackles must be replaced, if necessary.

Check the condition of the spring seat (19), if it is substituted, it must be of the same dimension.

Assemble

7

Replace the bushings (18) of the adapters (17) of the master spring (1) and of the shackle (20)

Utilize an appropriate mandrel and a press.

During the assemblage, centralize the bushings (18) with regard to the adapters (17) and shackles' (20) edges at the points indicated by the arrows.

8

Lubricate the leafs, the shims and the separators all around their surfaces with the specified grease

9

Assemble the lower shims (8), the leaf (6) with the adapter (6.1) for the shock absorber fastening, the leaf (5) with respective separators

Utilize as a guide, a rod with the same diameter as the master bolt (10), to make possible its fastening in a vise, enabling the leaf spring to be assembled in the vertical position, its work position.

10

Assemble the leaf (4) with the riveted rear clamp (13), the leaf (3) with the riveted front clamp (12) and the respective separators

11

Put the leaf (1) with the new bushings (18) assembled in the adapters (eye bolts) inside the leaf (2) with the respective separator (7) and assemble both on the others

12

Put the three upper shims (9).

Remove the guide rod and install the master bolt (10) with a new self-locking nut (11)

Align the leafs, shims and separators set laterally before reaching the final tightening of the self-locking nut (11).

13

Close the clamps installing spacer bushings (14), the bolts (15) and the new self-locking nuts (16)

14

Tighten the self-locking nut (11) of the master bolt (10) up to the specified torque

In order to fasten the master bolt head (10), protect the jaws with aluminum or copper.

15

Clean the surplus of grease from the leafs

If the spring is intended to remain in the storage, put adhesive tape on the cylindric part of the master bolt or on an appropriate protective plug.

Cover the bushings in the adapters.
